DWYL For Sanity

THE EVENT

Do What You Love, for sanity is a show of artists who create not just because they like to, but because they have to for their well being, “For Sanity” — This event was their second successful meet for people in the creative fields: installation artists, photographer, illustrators, makeup artistry, photographers, videographers, singers, and much more.

MY ROLE

Alongside the creator of the showcase, I was commissioned to create the look and feel of this campaign/event. Including different aspects such as, the logo/event design, social media posts on various platforms, sticker design, printed collateral, and a video that included spoken word from different installation artists.

Creating the logo

Partnering with the organizers of the event, I presented a few initial concepts with the brief of text being handwritten with the main focus on the text, “For Sanity.” After presenting these few ideas, we moved forward with the more brush/bold style, and added in the organizer, “Do what you love” and the sponsor of the event, Vista Community Clinic, that focuses on Mental Health Awareness and overall health of the clients.

CREATING THE FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

The first initial post was crucial, as it set the stage of what the event was, and would be the most shared post with others. It was important to have all the event details, as well as the various installation artists, vendors, and showcases that will be at the event. At the time, it was a newer feature to include carousels on Instagram, so I decided to make a 3 page carousel that was seamless between page 2 and 3. Instead of just a static image for the first page, I created a subtle animation done in after effects, to show a parallax effect between the microphone and the background to create depth. With this subtle element, I believe it brought the image to life.

ADDITIONAL SOCIAL MEDIA ASSETS

In addition to the instagram posts, there were other items I made for social media. Such as Story Stickers, Story Posts, and Artist Features for the page to post, leading up to the event. The story stickers were a cool feature that I previously didn’t have much knowledge of but, I looked into how to have these added into the library of stickers, and it was a fairly easy task and will be a continued feature I will be offering. The stories that are created helped to just be a reminder of the event.

PRINTED MATERIALS

Additional printed materials included, posters and buttons. The posters were hung at the venue and outside. One was to show the different installations and events going on during the show, and one was more of a reflection of what was posted over social media. The buttons were handed out in front and had different messages for attendees to wear. Including one that let attendees fill in what they do for their sanity. This was used as an icebreaker for many to identify others of similar interest.

There was also a shirt that was designed for attendees to preorder and pick up the day of the event and “Hello, my name is” nametags for attendees to wear and fill out. I designed the shirt to go along with the whole theme of the event, and spread a positive message that will live long after the event was over. The name tags were a fun touch, as attendees were able to fill out their name and what they do for sanity as they checked into the venue. Markers were provided to fill in this information.

With all 20+ vendors at the show, came a card provided by the organizers for them to hand out to attendees to learn more about their art or programs they offer. On the front, the cards stayed on brand, and on the back, there was relevant information including: the vendor, a photo, a section about themselves, and their social handles. These acted as a business card of sorts for attendees to refer to later once the event was over. Along with the installations were didactics that are typically found in museums, that talk to the piece you are looking at, and help the viewer understand what they are looking at and some inspiration behind them. There was both a card and didactic at each piece showcased at the event.

RECAP OF LIVE EVENT

As part of the experience, a local videographer filmed the event and showcased all the different offerings of the event.
